We are delighted to be able to host Bryan O'Leary and Colm Guilfoyle for our annual Christmas Recital.
8pm (doors 7.30pm), Friday 9th December 2016
Leixlip Parish Centre
Adults €10, Concessions €5
The night will not only featuring phenomenal music in a fun festive atmosphere but will also include a Christmas Raffle, mulled wine and minced pies.
Below is an extract from a review of Bryan and Colm's latest album "Where the bog is" - Click here to purchase the album
Both, are outstanding players. Guilfoyle and O’Leary are gifted with impeccable melodic phrasing, but what’s really interesting is how well the two articulate with each other: their ability to play unflinchingly on the same page contributes to their easy musical flow and conveys a warmth that makes the album special.
On the sound system this week is Bryan O’Leary (accordion) and Colm Guilfoyle’s (flute) new album “Where The Bog Is.” Taking its title from a quip Padraig O’Keeffe once made about the location of his own townland, “Where The Bog Is” contains 16 tracks of truly excellent Sliabh Luachra music.
Sliabh Luachra music is one of those deeply local styles that has an intense and dedicated following of fans. This album will be sure to delight, as it shows a born-in sense of the music, as both players from the region (Guilfoyle from Kilcummin and O’Leary from Tureencahill) and born to musical families. Not only did Guilfoyle’s mother and aunts all play, he learned also from local players like Padraig Buckley and Stephen Carroll. O’Leary, who was TG4’s young traditional musician of the year for 2014, is the grandson of the legendary Sliabh Luachra accordionist Johnny O’Leary and studied with the likes of Henry Cronin and Nicky McAuliffe.
Over the coming days we will be publishing some videos from Fleadhanna showcasing the phenomenal talent within the branch. We hope you enjoy them!Click the link to go to our video gallery -> http://www.cceleixlip.com/video

The phenomenal young musicians of Na Rógairí will be on the gig rig in Maynooth at 7.30pm tonight as part of the Leinster Fleadh Entertainment.
Na Rógairí recently came in 2nd place in SIANSA GAEL LINN. This is one of the country’s most prestigious competitions for young traditional Irish music and singing groups. Organised by Gael Linn with support from Foras na Gaeilge, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta and Irish Music Magazine, Siansa provides a platform for talented teenage groups who aim to emulate groups such as Téada, Altan, Danú, Dervish etc. While Siansa is essentially a competition, the groups are helped and encouraged along the way by highly regarded traditional musicians. The event is run entirely through the medium of Irish.
We are looking forward to a fantastic performance as always from the group and hope to see a big gang there to support them!
